The announced direction
The organiser’s theme announcement centres on relationships within workplace and contract spaces, including collaboration and adapting to change. The current event website confirms the October dates. This is a reading of that announced direction, not a report on products demonstrated at the still-upcoming fair.
Our studio take: name the behaviour, not just the room
A room number identifies a destination, but it may not explain whether the space is intended for quiet work, a short call or an open discussion. Pair a clear name with a short, plain-language description of its purpose.
Agree on those descriptions with the people who use the space before producing permanent graphics. A useful sign reflects an agreed way of working; it cannot resolve a policy that has not been decided.
Separate stable information from changing status
Keep the room name and purpose consistent, then give availability or temporary instructions a distinct place. A replaceable insert or a simple status marker may be easier to maintain than reprinting the whole sign every time a rule changes.
Use matching terms on door signs, booking screens and printed guides. Test the wording with someone unfamiliar with the building and ask what they think they can do in the room. These are Chromatic’s planning observations inspired by the fair’s theme, not an affiliation with ORGATEC.
