What the organiser announces

The pavilion programme includes reusable transport packaging, cleaning and repair services, asset tracking and return logistics. The new corridor focuses on consumer reuse and refill, with Upstream organising and sponsoring that section. These are advance programme details, not a report on demonstrations or independently verified environmental results.

Our studio take: make the next action clear

A reusable container needs a clear instruction at the point where someone finishes using it. Identify what should be returned and where it goes. If a return location has opening hours or other conditions, place that information where the user can find it before making the trip.

Use consistent wording on the container, collection point and any accompanying card. Test the instruction with a person who has not seen the packaging brief. Ask what they would do next, rather than whether the artwork looks clear.

Separate identity from information that changes

Decide which identification needs to remain with the container and which label changes with each use. A permanent asset identifier and a temporary contents label serve different purposes; give them distinct places in the layout.

Ask the reuse-system operator what cleaning, handling and label-removal conditions the printed pieces must face, then test against those conditions. A return message alone does not establish that a packaging system saves resources. These are Chromatic’s design-planning observations, not an affiliation with the show or a sustainability certification.
